Tokyo Ghoul:re anime vs manga—what got butchered?
Just finished the :re anime and I feel like I watched a slideshow. Characters show up, die, and I’m supposed to care but I don’t even know their names. People keep saying the manga fixes everything. Before I slog through 179 chapters, what exactly did the anime cut or rush that makes the manga worth it?

basically everything lol. they crammed 16 volumes into 24 eps so every gut punch lands like a wet napkin. the quinx backstories? gone. touka and kaneki’s actual chemistry? reduced to one awkward cafe scene. read from chapter 1 if you want emotions that hit.
they skipped the whole thing where haise strokes his chin when he thinks — sounds dumb but its how you know kaneki is still in there. without it the anime makes him look like a blank npc until the last second
- shirazu’s sister plot — heart of his arc, anime gives it 15 seconds
- urie’s descent into ghoulification — 3-panel flashback instead of multi-chapter body horror
- mutsuki’s gender dysphoria + yandere turn — completely neutered, just shows up crazy outta nowhere
- dragon arc foreshadowing — deleted, so kaneki turning into a city-sized centipede feels like a meme read the manga, the anime is a speedrun
idk man i liked the anime. fights looked cool and i didnt have to read 5000 pages of edgy poetry
they even killed off mama like she was a random mob. in the manga her death breaks your spine because you spend 30 chapters learning why she hoards money for her kid. anime? she screams I WANT CHEESE and explodes. swear the director hated this franchise
studio pierrot reused the same 3 ost tracks from season 1 so even emotional moments felt like recycled tiktok edits. manga silence hits harder than any synth beat they slapped on
just watch the opening of ep 1 on mute then jump to the manga. thats literally the only part they didnt butcher
